About Rex

Hello and welcome to Smith Lake Bass. For those that don’t know me, my name is Rex Chambers and I’m from Cullman Alabama. I consider Smith Lake my home lake and I’m a self confessed bass junkie. I’ve been fishing since my uncle and grandfather hooked me on it when I was three years old. Trolling for bass and crappie with my granddad are some of my fondest memories of fishing and always will be.
My real job is a Detective with the Cullman Police Department and I’ve been there since 1990. I’ve been married to my lovely wife Teresa since 1992 and have a beautiful daughter that is a college freshman. I’ve been tournament fishing for over twenty five years. Competition is what drives me to fish, it's simply addictive.
I was a director for the American Bass Anglers for two years, making the Nationals both seasons. Started a B.A.I.T. Divison here on Smith Lake in October, 2006 as the Director for Alabama Division V. I decided to venture into the rookie season of the Bassmaster Series events in 2005, fishing the South Alabama Division. Fished the Bassmaster Series through 2010 making two National events and winning one regular season event on the Alabama River in 2008.. Fished the 2009 B.A.S.S. Southern Opens on Okeechobee and Smith Lake. Won the 2011 TBF Federation State Championship on Guntersville and qualified for the State Team that will fish Regionals on Okeechobee in 2012. Finished this 2011 season of the Top Rod Solo Trail in 3rd place overall in the AOY standings.
I was the Outdoors Writer for the Cullman Times Newspaper from 1999 until 2009. During that time, I tried to keep local anglers up to date on what’s going on around North Alabama in the tournament scene, and just who wins all the events on Smith Lake. My articles were published one a week, usually with some type of "opinion" piece and a "how-to" article along with lake levels, tournament results and a picture or two. I’m a regular contributor to Alabama Outdoors Magazine, Yamamoto Inside-Line Magazine and also ABA Magazine.
I’m absolutely not a professional angler. But I do consider myself an "amateur with benefits". Thanks to all my sponsors that have made this site possible and if I can help anyone with Smith Lake, just drop me an e-mail. If you have an article or a bass fishing tip, be sure to send me an e-mail and I’ll get it posted.
